The first of our two-part Ethics Webinar Series in collaboration with The Malaysian Insurance Institute (MII) and Islamic Banking & Finance Institute Malaysia (IBFIM) was held on 14 August 2020 at 10.30 am. Moderated by Shireen Kandiah, Director, Strategy, Partnerships and Communications, AICB, “Foundations of Leadership: Ethics in a Time of Crisis” highlighted the importance of ethical leadership and decision making in these challenging times and how to achieve effective governance and trust based on the three principal components of an organisation’s ‘DNA’: its purpose, values and principles. Subject matter expert and speaker, Dr Simon Longstaff, Executive Director of The Ethics Centre, Australia covered four key components of this webinar including, the basic structure of ethics, the character and causes of moral fatigue and moral injury, the risks associated with the emergence of ‘shadow’ values and principles and the role of purpose in prospering after a crisis. The webinar was attended by close to 280 participants, who actively engaged with the speakers through the Q&A session and chats.
