The second webinar of the Sustainable Finance Series in collaboration with the World Bank and Islamic Banking & Finance Institute Malaysia (IBFIM) was held on 25 August 2020 at 9 am. Moderated by IBFIM CEO Yusry Yusoff, “The Impact of COVID-19 on the Financial Sector” highlighted the severe implications of the COVID-19 pandemic on economic growth. Speaker Ana Maria Aviles, Senior Financial Sector Economist of the World Bank, discussed the policy measures implemented by governments globally in response to COVID-19, and matters of consideration when addressing problem loans during the pandemic. Panellists Daud Vicary Abdullah, Managing Director, DVA Consulting Sdn Bhd; Promod Dass, Deputy Group CEO of RAM Holdings Berhad and CEO of RAM Sustainability Sdn Bhd; and Angelia Chin-Sharpe, CEO & Country Head, Malaysia of BNP Paribas Asset Management, also provided their perspectives on how the work-from-home practice was implemented almost overnight across industries and had proven to be possible in banking, as well as the appetite for ESG and sustainable investing during this climate of uncertainty. The webinar was attended by close to 300 participants, who actively engaged with the speakers through the Q&A session and chats. A recording of the webinar was provided to all participants after the session.
