The second webcast collaboration between AICB and the Asia School of Business was held on 9 September 2020 at 10.30 am. Moderated by AICB CEO Prasad Padmanaban, “The Quandary of Central Bank Digital Currencies” featured Dr Eli Remolona, Professor of Finance and Program Director of Central Banking at the Asia School of Business, who shared his views on central banks and their management of digital currencies. The areas covered included design principles and its issues on anonymity, the payment of interest, and allowing overdrafts; the quandary of disintermediation in banking; and the projects that will shape the future of our payment systems. The webinar was attended by close to 200 participants, who actively engaged with the speakers through the Q&A session and chats. A recording of the webinar was provided to all participants after the session.
